An update to our customers regarding Coronovirus - COVID-19

Alert Level 2 Update - 13/05/20:

With NZ moving to Alert Level 2 on Thursday 14th May, Ezi Car Rental are now open to receive bookings and provide rental vehicles for all Kiwis across the country.

All our branches will be operating out of their normal locations in the airport terminals (Wellington, Dunedin, Queenstown and Christchurch) and in the normal branch locations at Auckland City and Auckland Airport.

Our new branch hours have been updated on the Locations pages here.

We will continue to focus on cleaning and sanitisation in all our branches and vehicles. Please note we ask you to maintain the social distancing requirements at the branches and follow our signage when queuing.

We cannot offer walk-up services, however we only require a three hour lead-time for booking a vehicle, please contact our friendly Reservations Team on 0800 545 000  to discuss your requirements.

The Reservations and Customer Service Centre hours are now 8am – 5pm seven days a week.


Alert Level 3 Update - 25/04/20:

With NZ moving to Alert Level 3 on Tuesday 28th April, Ezi Car Rental will reopen to provide a contactless service to receive bookings and provide rental vehicles to essential services and other essential personal movement.

If you need to return or pick-up a car, a representative from the Branch will call you in advance to discuss the arrangements.

Please note we will be providing a contactless service for pre-arranged bookings only, so all branch doors will remain locked and no walk-in bookings will be taken. We are operating a staggered pick-up and returns process so there will be minimal interactions with staff and other customers.

All customers will be contacted in advance of their pickup or return times and provided with further details and we will only be accepting customers during our new operating hours below. We require 24 hours in advance for all bookings and can arrange after-hours collection if required but please contact our friendly Reservations Team on              0800 545 000  to discuss your requirements.

Auckland Airport – please collect/return to our branch at 7 Percival Gull Place, Auckland Airport. Our new hours are 8am – 5pm seven days a week.

Auckland City - please collect/return to our branch at 167 Beach Road, Auckland Central. Our new hours are 8am - 3pm Monday to Saturday and 8am - 12pm on Sunday.

Wellington Airport - please collect/return to Wellington Airport, Stewart Duff Drive, Rongotai. Our new hours are 7:15am - 4pm Monday to Friday and 8:45am - 12pm Saturday and Sunday.

Christchurch Airport – please collect/return to our new outdoor Ezi booth which is located in the Rental Carpark area. Our new hours are 8am - 5pm seven days a week.

Queenstown Airport - please collect/return to Queenstown Airport, Sir Henry Wigley Drive, Frankton.  Our new hours are 8am - 5pm seven days a week.

Dunedin Airport – please collect/return to Dunedin Airport, 25 Miller Rd, Momona. Our new hours are 8am - 5pm seven days a week.

Please note these addresses and opening times are subject to change at short notice, we will endeavour to keep you well informed of any updates.

Additional Cleaning and Sanitisation Information

We are very proud of our cleaning processes at Ezi Car Rental but during this time we have put in place additional cleanliness procedures across our network. This includes increased sanitisation of all rental vehicles, with a particular focus on the sanitisation of keys, steering wheels and other highly utilised areas of the vehicle.

All Ezi Branch staff are also adhering to the Ministry of Health’s guidelines regarding hygiene advice and social distancing measures.


Update on 02/04/20:

Due to the Government's Level 4 lockdown across New Zealand, our branches are now closed, and will remain closed until Tuesday 28 April (now confirmed). If you are returning your vehicle between Thursday 26 March and Monday 27 April please see the return information below.

How do I return my rental car?

Upon returning your Ezi rental car, please follow the instructions below:

1. Refuel your vehicle with a full tank of petrol

2. Take note of the kilometres on the odometer

3. Take note of the parking bay number and car park you have returned the vehicle to

4. After returning your keys in the drop box, email our Reservations Team ([email protected]) with this information

Auckland Airport

Return your vehicle to the Domestic or International Airport PUBLIC car park, take a parking ticket and follow directions below.

  1. Ensure your vehicle is has been returned with a full tank of petrol
  2. Remove all of your belongings from the vehicle
  3. Leave the parking ticket on the front seat of the car (please note you will not be required to pay for this parking)
  4. Take a note of the odometer reading and parking bay number
  5. Return your car keys to the Avis counter drop box – as per below
  6. The Avis Domestic terminal drop box is outside their Avis building
  7. The Avis International terminal drop box is located inside the terminal building
  8. Email or call our Reservations Team with the information listed above

Auckland City

Return your vehicle as per normal at 167 Beach Road, Auckland Central.

  1. Ensure your vehicle is has been returned with a full tank of petrol
  2. Remove all of your belongings from the vehicle
  3. Take a note of the odometer reading
  4. Return your car keys to drop box, this is located by the garage roller door, please follow the signs
  5. Email or call our Reservations Team with the above information

Wellington Airport

Return your vehicle in the Ezi Car Rental parking bays and drop the keys in the returns drop box located inside the terminal at the Ezi counter.

  1. Ensure your vehicle is has been returned with a full tank of petrol
  2. Remove all of your belongings from the vehicle
  3. Take a note of the odometer reading and parking bay number
  4. Return your car keys in the drop box at the Ezi counter
  5. Email or call our Reservations Team with the above information

Christchurch Airport

Return your vehicle in the Ezi Car Rental parking bays and drop the keys in the returns drop box located inside the terminal at the Ezi counter. If the rental bays are full, please park in the long stay carpark and leave the keys in the drop box.

  1. Ensure your vehicle is has been returned with a full tank of petrol
  2. Remove all of your belongings from the vehicle
  3. Take a note of the odometer reading and parking bay number
  4. Return your car keys in the drop box at the Ezi counter
  5. Email or call our Reservations Team with the above information

Dunedin Airport

Return your vehicle in the Ezi Car Rental parking bays and drop the keys in the returns drop box located inside the terminal at the Ezi counter.

  1. Ensure your vehicle is has been returned with a full tank of gas
  2. Remove all of your belongings from the vehicle
  3. Take a note of the odometer reading and parking bay number
  4. Return your car keys in the drop box at the Ezi counter
  5. Email or call our Reservations Team with the above information

Queenstown Airport

Return your vehicle in the Ezi Car Rental parking bays and drop the keys in the Avis returns drop box located inside the terminal at the Avis counter.

  1. Ensure your vehicle is has been returned with a full tank of gas
  2. Remove all of your belongings from the vehicle
  3. Take a note of the odometer reading and parking bay number
  4. Return your car keys in the drop box at the Avis counter
  5. Email or call our Reservations Team with the above information

 

Update on 24/03/20:

With the recent announcement from the New Zealand Government regarding an enforced four week isolation period across the country, we understand you may have a lot of questions regarding your current or upcoming Ezi Car Rental booking. We hope to answer the majority of your questions below.

I need to keep my rental car until the end of the four weeks – how do I do this?

We are trying to help everyone where we can, so that is no problem to extend your rental vehicle booking. We will be offering discounted rates when extending your rental journey, so please email [email protected] with your Reservation Number (found at the top of your confirmation email) and let us know when you want to return your vehicle.

How do I return my rental car?

All our branches will all remain open until 5pm Wednesday 25 March, from which point they will be closed until Thursday 23 April (at this stage).

Where possible we recommend all customers either extend their rental booking or return their vehicles before 5pm tomorrow.

We are still waiting on confirmation from the various airports regarding the process for rental car returns during the lockdown period, please check our website www.ezicarrental.co.nz for all updated information.

Unfortunately, if you cannot return your vehicle before 5pm tomorrow, you will be obliged to keep the vehicle until the end of the four-week isolation period. The exception to this is if you have a flight already booked out of New Zealand, see further information below.

I am flying out of NZ next week; how do I return my vehicle?

Although our branches are temporarily closed, we do have drop boxes at each branch where you can drop off your car keys after returning your vehicle. As per above, detailed information will be on website later this week regarding how to drop off your vehicle during the lockdown period. If you need any further information in the meantime, please email our Reservations Team at [email protected]

I had a rental car booking with Ezi next week, what do I do?

Due to the Government lockdown requirements, all our branches will be closed from 5pm Wednesday 25 March and we will need to cancel all bookings during this period (25/03/20 – 24/04/20). As we have a zero-cancellation policy, you will not be charged a fee for cancelling. We will automatically be cancelling all booking during this time period, so you do not need to do anything.

I want to book an Ezi vehicle in the future, how do I do this?

We are currently not taking any bookings either online or over the phone for the next four weeks (25/03/20 – 23/04/20) except for those people who are classed as essential services and require a vehicle. If you believe you fall in this category, please contact us at [email protected] or 0800 545 000 to speak to our Reservations Team. We will be taking bookings from the end of April, however due to the current uncertainty of the situation, we may not be able to fulfil this request. We will notify you via email to advise on any cancellations if there are extended restrictions.

How can I contact Ezi?

Our Reservations Team will be operating normally from their remote locations, they are contactable from 7am to 6pm seven days a week. We highly recommend that you either email us at [email protected] or via LiveChat on our website, as you can appreciate, our phone lines are very busy at the moment. We aim to respond to all emails within a 24-hour period, however if you do need to call, we are also available on the numbers below:

Update on 19/03/20

The Government has announced temporary restrictions on travellers arriving in New Zealand as a precautionary measure to protect against the spread of COVID-19. The restrictions prevent foreign nationals travelling from any country from entering New Zealand.

People who are exempt from the temporary restrictions are:

  • New Zealand citizens (including those from the three Countries of the Realm: Tokelau, Niue and the Cook Islands), permanent residents and their immediate family
  • Australian citizens and permanent residents whose primary place of established residence is New Zealand

Any person arriving in New Zealand will also be required to self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival.

Our priority at Ezi Car Rental is the welfare of our staff and customers. Following announcements from the New Zealand government around COVID-19 we wanted to update you on steps we are taking. 

At this point in time, the Ministry of Health for New Zealand continues to advise that, with continued vigilance, the chance of a widespread community outbreak of COVID-19 in our country is expected to remain low.

We feel it is very important that we put in place a number of measures to minimise any potential risk to our valued customers and staff, details of which you can find below.

Your health and safety is our number one priority – please stay safe and continue to look out for one another. 

Cleanliness

The New Zealand Ministry of Health has advised that basic hygiene measures are the most important ways to stop the spread of COVID-19. We have put in place the measures below.

Vehicles - We are very proud of our cleaning processes at Ezi Car Rental but during this time we are putting in place additional cleanliness procedures across our network. This includes increased sanitisation of all rental vehicles, with a particular focus on the sanitisation of keys and steering wheels.

In branch - We are also increasing the cleaning process for all surfaces in branch, with our counters being sanitised after every customer. We have provided all staff with information on the best protocol for regular handwashing and are continuing to update our entire network with the latest government advice, including instructing those who should self-isolate to do so.

Hand sanitiser – Hand sanitiser is available in all our branches, please use this regularly or take advantage of our hand washing facilities.  

Reservations

You will likely have seen that the New Zealand government has implemented Coronavirus-related travel procedures for anyone arriving from overseas.

Continued reservations - Ezi Car Rental will continue to operate for those that need us and we look forward to seeing you if you are still able to travel. We will consistently be reviewing government advice to provide a safe experience for our customers.

Cancellations - At Ezi Car Rental, we do not charge cancellation fees. So, if you have been forced to cancel your travel plans as a result of these procedures, we have a number of ways to cancel. The quickest method is here on our website under Manage Booking which is found at the top of the page. Enter your Reservation Number (starts with R0) and Last Name and you can cancel your booking immediately. Alternatively you can email us at [email protected], or call us on the numbers listed below.

Amended bookings – We understand that you may wish to change your plans in some way. If you would like to amend a booking in any way, either prior to picking your car up, or during your rental period, please also contact us at the numbers below and we will advise next steps. 

New bookings – If you are in need of a rental car, we would love to assist you. Please book via our website or contact us on the numbers below.

PERFECT!! Great staff and so so helpful and friendly, Car was perfect. Pick up and drop off shuttle easy to use/spot and very fast. I would highly recommend this company and have used a few different ones in NZ but this is by far the best with the best staff, Especially the lovely ladies on the front counter. Great staff makes the world of difference.
