This 16km hike climbs along a well formed track through alpine meadows up to the tussock tops of the 1578m peak. This track is now a Great Walk and is thus very popular for a good reason. If you want the best insta shot we recommend start early before too many others arrive.
- The track is closed for lambing from 1st October to 10 November each year.
- In winter you will need to carry and be able to use alpine equipment such as an ice axe and crampons. The top section of the track become challenging with snow and ice and is an avalanche zone above 1000m.
- The region experiences very fast changes in weather. In this alpine environment its common to experience strong winds, high rainfall and sometime snow and rapid changes of temperature at any time of year. Be prepared with warm clothing and a waterproof jacket.
- Please stay on the track at all times.
- Take plenty of water.

Very pleased with the friendly service! We picked up the car from Auckland City and dropped the car off at the airport prior departing for Oz. When we dropped the car off we were asked if we filled the car up with petrol, which we didn't. The very friendly lady drove us to the petrol station so we could fill up and then dropped us off to the airport!!!! Nice touch!Tony MacDonald
