Coronavirus Update

Latest update to our customers regarding COVID-19


Auckland has moved to Alert Level 3 on Wednesday 22nd September, and the remainder of our non-Auckland branches remaining at Alert Level 2.


Our two Auckland branches at Auckland Airport and Auckland CBD are now open to provide a contactless service for all vehicle pick-ups and returns. See here for our updated operating hours.

If you need to pick-up or return a car, a representative from Ezi will contact you in advance to discuss the arrangements and provide you with further details. Please note we will be providing a contactless service for pre-arranged bookings only, so all Auckland branch doors will remain locked, and no walk-in bookings will be taken. We are operating a staggered pick-up and returns process so there will be minimal interactions with staff and other customers.

To ensure a contactless service, there will be a drop-box at both locations to return your keys. Please park up, ensure you remove all your belongings from the car, take note of the time of return and place the keys in the drop-box. The drop-boxes are both well sign-posted, at Auckland Airport it is located near the front doors on the pole, and the drop-box at Auckland CBD is located beside the garage door.

Due to health and safety requirements, the Auckland Airport free shuttle bus will not be operating over Level 3. Please make your own way to the branch located at 7 Percival Gull Place, Auckland Airport, some local taxi numbers are listed below:

Keeping safe over Delta Alert Level 3

We will strictly adhere to Government and Ministry of Health guidelines for social distancing, number of people gathered, face mask wearing, contact tracing and heightened measures of hygiene.

We have designed good health and safety measures to keep our staff and customers safe, with cleaning and sanitisation as our main focus. Please note we ask you to maintain the social distancing requirements of two metres at the branches, follow our signage when queuing, sign in using the NZ Covid Tracer app, and masks or face coverings must be worn at all times.

New Bookings in Auckland from 22/09/21 – 04/10/21

New bookings can be made from either of our Auckland branches, so please book as per normal on our website or contact our friendly Customer Service Team on 0800 545 000. We require a three-hour lead time for any new bookings.


The rest of our New Zealand branches (Wellington, Queenstown, Christchurch and Dunedin are in Alert Level 2 and are operating as per normal, with stringent health and safety measures in place.

They are operating out of their normal locations in the airport terminals (Wellington, Dunedin, Queenstown and Christchurch) and the branch hours will remain the same (see the Locations pages here).

How do I contact Ezi?

Our Customer Service Team will be operating normally from their remote locations, they are contactable from 7:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday and 8:00am to 6:00pm on weekends. We strongly recommend that you either email us at [email protected] or via LiveChat on our website, as you can appreciate, our phone lines are currently very busy. We aim to respond to all emails within a 24-hour period, however if you do need to call, we are also available on the numbers below:

Additional Cleaning and Sanitisation Information

We are very proud of our cleaning processes at Ezi Car Rental but during this time we have put in place additional cleanliness procedures across our network. This includes increased sanitisation of all rental vehicles, with a particular focus on the sanitisation of keys, steering wheels and other highly utilised areas of the vehicle.

All Ezi Branch staff are also adhering to the Ministry of Health’s guidelines regarding hygiene advice and social distancing measures.

We actively encourage all our customers who visit an Ezi branch to scan the displayed QR code with the NZ COVID Tracer app, more details on the app can be found here.

Alert Level Updates and Booking Policies

All changes in the Alert Levels will be communicated on our website and via our social media channels. The updates will highlight what you need to do as a customer, whether you have a current booking or one in the future. 


There is no cancellation fee at Ezi, if you wish to cancel your booking please let us know.

You can cancel your booking:

  • online by clicking on “Manage Booking”. Please note, bookings for car rentals cannot be cancelled online less than 24 hours before pickup and 48 hours before a ferry crossing.
  • If you need to cancel less than 24 hours before the pick up or less than 48 hours before a ferry crossing, please get in touch with us by phone on 0800 545 000 for New Zealand and 1800 129 102 for Australia, or email us on [email protected].


If you wish to return or extend your rental car booking during a Covid Alert level change, please contact us via phone or email.



Fabulous rental service. Easiest by far! Book online. Well priced. I actually got the car I wanted and not an 'upgrade' that I had to pay for. No additional costs when you get to the desk after a long flight. Staff were friendly and helpful. Drop off was super easy. I would definitely rent again and highly recommend!
