Located just a few minutes drive outside of Taupo town you’ll find the Huka Falls, a thundering 11 metre high waterfall with amazing crystal blue water.

Time: 3 hours

Grade: Easy

Enjoy the walking tracks alongside the river and wander around the different viewing platforms, taking in the falls from all angles. Huka Falls is a great short walk of about 1.5 hours each way, and great for kids. You get excellent views of the Waikato River along the walk. You can even swim in the thermal hot water creek along the way or in the smaller waterfalls.

The track starts at the end of Spa Road if you are starting in Taupo or at the Huka Falls itself if starting there. It can be done in one direction in 1.5 hours if you organise transport back at the other end with a local taxi.

Things to note:

If you are driving in to Taupo from the north, cross over the Waikato River bridge and to a roundabout, and turn right into Spa Rd. You drive past a Woolworth’s supermarket. After another 2kms, then turn left on to Country Ave. The entrace to the walk is on the left hand side of the car park.
